The Rocky View Schools Advocacy Committee provided an update to the Board of Trustees regarding the work being done to share and advance the Board’s advocacy priorities.
This year's focus is on addressing the need for both space and support for students.
"The Board’s thoughtfully developed advocacy priorities are specific areas where increased government support is essential to address critical needs that impact the educational experience and outcomes of our students," stated RVS's "The Brief".
The 2024/2025 Advocacy Plan builds on the successes and learnings of previous plans with high-level goals to:
- Build understanding and support
- Communicate consistently through diverse channels
- Empower participation
Last month Rocky View Schools announced were multiple new modular classrooms and relocations will be placed that they received from the provincial government.
Back in July, the provincial government announced that they are investing $215 million to help alleviate enrolment growth pressures, within that announcement, it was shared that RVS will receive up to 12 new modular classrooms and have up to 12 relocated.
Airdrie will receive five of the new modular, two at Ralph McCall and one at Herons Crossing. Some of the relocations will be coming to Airdrie as well. A.E. Bowers Elementary will receive two, while Heloise Lorimer will receive four.
When the modular will be moved and placed in their new homes is still being determined as it is based on the availability of the contractors to move them.
Recently, Luterback talked to DiscoverAirdrie about the new mobile device rules with Airdrie schools. Rocky View Schools and how they are doing in the classrooms so far. According to Luterbach, overall, he has seen a lot of support from teachers and parents.
