The Cochrane Elves for Seniors have kicked off their gift drive early this year to help make Christmas special for local seniors spending it on their own.

Cheryl DeMaere Ellis, one of the head elves, says they seek a total of 1,606 gifts, and have had a strong initial response.

They will be delivering gifts to seniors in Hawthorne, Grand Ave. Village, Bethany Cochrane, Big Hill Lodge as well as providing some gifts for FCSS to distribute. More independent seniors have been added to the list this year.

In total, they are seeking 100 throw blankets, 240 unisex gifts, 211 independent seniors, 592 gifts for ladies, and 463 gentlemen's gifts.

It is recommended gifts be in the $25 to $35 range. The seniors homes have asked for no scented items candles or homemade goods.

"For gift ideas, think about what you would like to give to your grandparents," suggests DeMaere Ellis.

All gifts donated in Cochrane will stay in the community. Gifts can be dropped off at the reception desk of Cochrane Toyota, 8 River Heights Dr.

Upon hearing of Cochrane residents coming together to bring Christmas joy to seniors, Santa offered his help last year. He'll be joined by Mrs. Claus this year.

The Elves have been bringing Christmas joy to a growing list of local seniors since 2020.
