As the Change Happens Radiothon unfolds, stories of transformation from individuals who have found refuge and support at Siloam Mission continue to resonate.

One such story is that of Alma, whose journey from instability to hope highlights the essential services provided by this local organization.

For many years, Alma found herself without a stable home, constantly battling the challenges of survival. “I was always focused on finding somewhere to sleep, something to eat. It was hard to think about anything else, let alone my health,” she shared.

Despite the overwhelming circumstances, reaching out for help proved to be a significant hurdle for Alma. “I kept putting it off, thinking I could manage everything on my own,” she explained. However, deep down, she recognized that something wasn’t right. It was only after gathering her courage that she visited Siloam Mission's medical clinic, marking a pivotal moment in her life.

Sitting down with a doctor who truly listened to her, Alma felt for the first time that someone cared about her well-being. “The doctor didn’t rush me. We talked about different options, and they suggested I try a few different medications,” she recalled. Initially hesitant, Alma knew she needed to embrace the support being offered. “I’ve always been the kind of person to push through on my own, but this time… I accepted the help. It wasn’t easy, but I knew I couldn’t keep going the way I was.”

This decision changed everything for Alma. With the doctor’s guidance, she applied for disability benefits, an opportunity she never thought she’d qualify for. “It was a bit overwhelming,” she admitted, “but I’ve been able to focus on my health without constantly worrying about where my next meal or shelter would come from.”

Today, Alma stands as a testament to resilience and the transformative power of support. “For the first time in a long time, I’m feeling hopeful. I’m learning to trust that things can get better,” she said, emphasizing the positive changes in her life.

Alma’s story underscores the vital role that Siloam Mission plays in the community, providing essential healthcare and support to those in need. As the Change Happens Radiothon continues, it reminds us all of the importance of coming together to support individuals like Alma, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to find hope and healing.
