A 36-year-old Winnipeg man is recovering after being seriously assaulted Sunday evening.
Winnipeg police were called to the area of St. Mary's Road and Vivian Street just before 9 p.m. where they found a man suffering from a stab wound.
He was rushed to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.
An investigation has discovered that the victim was on a transit bus when several suspects, who were known to him, boarded at Marion Street and St. Mary's Road. The victim and the suspects began arguing. It escalated and several in the group began assaulting the victim. The altercation spilled outside the bus in the 200 block of St. Mary's Road, where one of the suspects stabbed the victim. The victim got back on the bus with help from a good Samaritan, who intervened, and the transit operator called police.
The suspects fled on foot before police arrived.
The Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation. No arrests have been made.
