A little over three weeks before the official end of the province's wildfire season on October 31, Alberta Wildfire has issued a fire advisory for the Calgary Forest Area (CFA).
According to the province, the advisory is due to very dry conditions and no anticipated precipitation. The advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve or further escalation is required.
"The wildfire danger across the Calgary Forest Area (CFA) remains extreme. Warm and dry conditions continue, with no precipitation expected in the forecast. Strong, gusty winds are anticipated, and substantial dry fuel is available to burn. If a wildfire ignites in these conditions, it can spread quickly and exhibit unpredictable fire behaviour," Alberta Wildfire stated on its website.
Under this fire advisory:
- Existing fire permits are suspended.
- No new fire permits will be issued.
- Campfires are allowed but should be kept small, attended at all times and must be fully extinguished.
- Fireworks and exploding targets are prohibited.
There are currently no active wildfires in the CFA. The last wildfire, CWF-085, was extinguished on September 7 at 0.01 hectares. Since January 1, the CFA has responded to 85 wildfires, which have burned 64.38 hectares.
The City of Airdrie is not under any fire advisories.
