Lorne Benedict Plemel
July 17, 1960 – October 2, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of Lorne Plemel announces his death on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. He was 64 years of age. Lorne Benedict Plemel was born July 17, 1960, to Martin and Jeanette Plemel. He was raised on the family homestead near St. Gregor, SK. While he loved the farm life, he enlisted in the military at the age of 17 and served nearly 38 years in the Royal Canadian Artillery Battery 128 AD. He started as a gunner and worked his way through the ranks retiring as a Major on April 13, 2015. During his years of service he was posted around the world, gaining friends everywhere he went. During his military career Lorne was presented several awards and honors: notably the Golden Jubilee Medal, The Chief of the Defence Staff Commendation, and the Order of Military Merit. Regardless of his passion for his military career, Lorne loved his family and friends first and foremost. He would often be found traveling across the country to visit, saying “I never have to stay in a hotel because I have so many friends, and I take full advantage of that”. He also loved hockey, hunting, fishing, camping, and in his past few years developed a deep love for the game of poker. In fact, his last evening was spent playing in a poker tournament which he won, going out with the “big stack”. In true Lorne fashion, he would end things on a high note and go out on top. Lorne was a gregarious spirit who lived life to the fullest and as a result, had friends and loved ones all over the world. He will be forever missed by so many.
