Get ready for two days of live music by 30-plus bands in early November.
Cochrane Music Mojo Rising is an all-genre music festival featuring a diverse lineup of world-renowned and up-and-coming artists. It's being held at the Cochrane Lions Event Centre on Nov 9 and 10 from 1 p.m. to midnight on both days.
Organizer Bobby Jacob, of the Canadian Society of Performing Arts (CSPA), says they're expecting to have 32 bands plus 20 solo or duo artists performing.
"People can listen to all genres of music like rock, pop, a little bit of metal, country, all those kinds of songs, and it's a chance to meet a lot of professional artists from Alberta," says Jacob,
Jacobs, a 10-year Cochrane resident who's with Lextronics, an innovative audio-visual rental company, says they serve many artists who want more opportunities to perform live on a state-of-the-art stage.
"They're not getting a very good platform other than some clubs and pubs, and they'd like to perform on a really good stage with all the modern technology, like LED Walls lined with top-of-the-line speakers and stuff like that. We thought, OK, why can't we put something together?"
Glyn Owens of Big Kid Records, a Cochrane-based recording studio, says it's an exciting opportunity for artists in a shrinking market for live music.
"Most of the venues have stopped doing it," says Owens. "They can't afford to support the band and say they're making as much money with a deejay."

The price is right, too. It's just $20 for a family to enjoy the entire two days. Online tickets go on sale next week and they'll be available at the door.
All proceeds will be donated to the Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter.
