Following a windy and wet weekend, the sun and heat have moved into the Humboldt region.
It’s expected to stay for an extended period.
Meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada Justin Shelley says an upper ridge of high pressure through the area is the cause of this pleasant weather.
He noted that we can expect temperatures ten degrees above the normal high for this time of year.
“That is expected to last for the next several days until a weak cold front that’s going to go through on Wednesday night that may bring a slight risk of showers and slightly cooler temperatures but even by the end of the week, we’re still looking temperatures in the mid-teens.”
Even though temperatures are above the normal high, Shelley added that reaching 20°C in October has been a common trend around Humboldt over the last few years.
He noted in October of 2023 we reached 20°C on four occasions, with the last day being October 19.
In October of 2022, the last day we temperatures above 20°C was a was also on October 19. During the month, we surpassed 20-degrees nine times.
The previous year, it was above 20°C over six days with the last occurrence on October 17.
With the warm days, we can still expect some crisp autumn evenings. Shelley said we shouldn’t see any frost until the end of the week.
“Once we get into Thursday night, we’re going to see those temperatures drop back to within the freezing mark.”
Shelley added that after the temperature dips down at the end of the week we could see them rise back to 20°C at the beginning of next week.
