"HWN Energy Ltd. can confirm that as of 7:30 p.m. on October 6, 2024, the emergency response was lifted. The AER and OHS have released the site back to HWN as of approximately noon on October 7th. Additional repairs and remediation efforts will continue on the site in the near term," The company stated in a news release.

According to the company, the incident began on September 30, at around 2:00 p.m., prompting HWN to mobilize industry experts and specialized equipment to regain control of the well safely.

"A well-control plan was developed and reviewed by regulatory agencies, allowing HWN to implement effective measures quickly. By the afternoon of October 1, the fire was extinguished, and control over the well was successfully established."

The company added that their thoughts remain with the five injured contractor personnel and their families.

"Out of respect for their privacy, HWN will not be making any comment on their condition. We appreciate the quick response and support of local residents, AER, OHS and all first responders. We would also like to thank the Calgary oil and gas community for their offers of support and assistance during this time."

HWN noted that this would be the last update regarding this situation unless new information becomes available.
