The deadline to file nomination papers is this afternoon and by this evening, we'll be able to take a look at the names of the people who have chosen to run for office.
It's municipal election time in Saskatchewan. We'll go to the polls to elect mayors and councillors in our cities and towns on November 13th.
You know, it was several years ago I was out for a bite to eat with some friends and the man who was the mayor of our city approached our table to greet us. Of course, I knew him well. But, when he walked away, two of the three fellas I was with looked at me and at the same time asked, "Who was that?"
I was amused but, at the same time, a little angry.
It's my opinion that it's my duty, your duty, to be engaged in our communities. The people who we elect are making decisions about issues that impact all of us.
I've heard it said, if you don't vote, other people are choosing who represents you.
So, if you're interested and involved, join me in the coming days and weeks and make an effort to have discussions with people who might not be concerned and, perhaps see if you can stimulate at least some curiosity.
It's a way you can have an impact in your community.
Let's get to work!
