Turkey, stuffing, and road trips are in order for the upcoming Thanksgiving long weekend.

As long as you're not taking your turkey dinner over the border, and you have your travel documents handy, you should be good.

The Canada Border Services Agency sent out some reminders for those planning on travelling to the U.S. along with some regulations you need to be aware of.

First of all, don't take any 'homemade' turkey dinners or any food to any border crossing as you won't be allowed to cross over with it.

Secondly, you can check the wait times online to see how long you expect to wait. For Albertans, the main border crossing is in Coutts.

Early mornings are the best time to cross and ensure you have your travel documents whether it's your passport or other forms of ID.

If you're travelling with children that may not be your own or for whom you don't have full legal custody, it's best to have a consent letter from the parent or legal guardian.

One of the new regulations to be aware of is transporting a family dog over the border.

As long as your dog hasn't been in a high-risk country for rabies you should be okay.

The regulations just changed on August 1 of this year and are designed to prevent rabies from entering the U.S. and you will need to know where your dog has been for the last six months.

They also remind you to ensure you declare all items crossing both to the U.S.A. and returning.
