What do The Calgary Stampede, Country Thunder and Big Valley Jamboree all have in common?
Each event featured local singer/songwriter Jennie Harluk on stage.
“This summer was so busy,” says Harluk. “I played 46 shows over the summer, which was so much fun. Stampede, Country Thunder, Big Valley and local shows, I play in the mountains a lot, like Kananaskis.”
She stopped by the 91.5FM CochraneNow studio to showcase her new song ‘Sugarcoat’ releasing later this month.
“Sugarcoat is coming out on October 25th and it is a song about bittersweet feelings of nostalgia and comparison. I feel like we've all seen that person who walks into a room and just commands it. We're like, man, I wish I was that. But the reality is you are that person to someone else or you will be at some point.”
Harluk grew up in the Springbank area and has always felt a special bond with the Cochrane community.
“I went to Springbank High so Cochrane was always kind of our rival school. I feel like I have a nice friendly attachment to to Cochrane.”
She has been creating music and performing from a young age and says it’s all about finding out who you really are.
“The biggest thing that I have learned is truly authenticity takes you further than anything else.”
“It's really hard, especially when you're young, you're figuring out who you are and then all of a sudden you're thrown into this industry where you need to know who you are and it's OK to figure it out along the way and change your mind.
“I think if you're true to yourself, true to what you believe in and the art that you want to share, the right audience will find you.”
