If you're planning to head out to the Calgary Forest Area, be careful where you start a fire.
As of October 8, the Calgary Forest Area is under a fire advisory due to the warm, dry conditions, and strong wind the area has been experiencing.
Now that the area is under an advisory, existing fire permits are suspended, and no new ones will be issued.
Wood campfires in designated campgrounds and random camping areas are still allowed, and so are backyard fire pits, portable propane fire pits, gas or propane stoves and barbeques, and catalytic or infrared style heaters.
Other than campfires, any form of burning without a valid fire permit is prohibited at this time.
Fireworks and exploding targets are also prohibited under this fire advisory.
This advisory will be in effect until the weather conditions improve or further escalation is needed.
Because fire advisories and bans can get issued with little to no notice, it would be best to keep an eye on fire restrictions and bans prior to lighting up.
