Rocky View Schools (RVS) Superintendent of Schools, Greg Luterbach has announced he will be retiring effective Aug. 31, 2025.

RVS board chair Fiona Gilbert says the board is grateful for his leadership over the last 8+ years during a time of transformation and rapid growth.

“His visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to student achievement, coupled with high integrity and a caring demeanor, have created a lasting positive impact and contributed greatly to the success of RVS,” states Gilbert in a news release.

“There are no words to effectively express our respect and appreciation for Greg and we wish him all the best in his retirement.”

"Since re-joining RVS in 2016, Superintendent Luterbach has led the division’s growing team of over 3,000 staff, maintaining a steadfast focus on providing the best possible learning experience for our students," states the news release.

“It has been an honour and privilege to be a part of the RVS team,” says Luterbach. “I have had the opportunity to work with exceptionally talented, passionate, and dedicated people giving it their all every day to help our students succeed.”

Among many contributions to RVS, he is well-known for inspiring an appreciation for innovation among staff and students to teach and learn in ways that engage minds and passions and prepare students for the future, states the release.

Luterbach previously served the Rocky View division as supervisor of technology services from 2000 to 2003. In July 2016, RVS announced his appointment as superintendent of schools. Before that, he was superintendent of schools for B.C. School District No. 20 in the Kootenay-Columbia region and has had an extensive 34-year career in education.

RVS officials say more information will be provided when the board begins the formal recruitment process for his replacement. In the meantime, Luterbach will continue to work closely with division officials to ensure a smooth transition.
