The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was kept busy Wednesday battling a grass fire in the Weston area.
The fire broke out in a field on Logan Avenue just west of McPhillips Street at around 11:23 a.m.
By the time crews arrived at the scene, the fire was covering an area the size of half a football field.
WFPS crews used specialized wildland firefighting equipment to battle the large fire.
It took just under an hour to get it under control.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Meanwhile, the WFPS is asking Winnipeggers to take steps to reduce the risk of these types of fires including, removing trees and cleaning up brush, planting fire-resistant plants and shrubs and watering plants and vegetation in the area surrounding your home.
They say conditions in Winnipeg remain dry, and high winds increase the risk of grass and wildland fires.
In a typical year, WFPS responds to approximately 200 of these types of fires within city limits.
