Winnipeg police are searching for three suspects after a woman and her teenage daughter were assaulted and robbed on a Winnipeg transit bus.

The unprovoked attack happened on Monday at around 6:15 p.m. on a bus near Portage Ave. and Valour Rd.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 40-year-old woman and her 16-year-old daughter suffering from injuries as a result of being cut with an edged weapon. They were transported to hospital where they were both treated and released.

Winnipeg police say that three suspects on the bus became involved in an unprovoked argument with the victims. It quickly escalated to the point of the victims being assaulted with an edged weapon. They were also robbed of their personal belongings.

All three suspects fled the scene before police arrived. The first suspect, carrying the weapon, is described as an Indigenous female in her late 20s, approximately 5'1" with a medium build and wearing glasses. The other two suspects are described as female youths wearing all dark clothing.

No arrests have been made.

The Major Crimes Unit has assumed the investigation and is working to determine an updated description of the suspects.
