A laundromat in Okotoks is hosting a Thanksgiving dinner this weekend.

Better Than Home Coin Laundry owner, Cynthia Federowich, says they will be hosting a turkey dinner this Sunday with donations made by local businesses.

Hirsche Fraser Meats donated 125 lbs. of turkey and COBS Bread donated the dinner buns.

"It's going to be supplied the donations that we have, and also I'm going to be making the mashed potatoes, gravy, and all the fixings," Federowic explains. "My husband and I, for 20 years, have talked about hosting for our customers Thanksgiving dinner."

She adds that she wants the laundromat to become a place where people can come to do laundry or socialize even if they don't have laundry to do.

The turkey dinner will be taking place from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 13, and is free for all.

All Federowich asks is people bring donations if they can, even if they aren't taking part in the dinner.

"What I am doing with the donations, such as soap, laundry soap, bounce sheets, spray and wash, Lysol wipes, because some people, they can't afford to come in and use the facility. Or they can't afford laundry service. With the donations, I'm going to have it set up that people can use whatever has been donated."

Federowich says they are doing this as a display of community generosity to tie into the Thanksgiving spirit.

This is their first time hosting a turkey dinner, but Federowich says it won't be their last.

"The door is always open as a place to come and feel welcome."
