Earlier this month, Mountain View County (MVC) honoured the Hadway family as the recipient of the 2024 Farm Family Award.
According to MVC, the Hadway family has deep roots in Alberta’s agriculture.
"Dating back to 1886 when Tom Hadway’s great-grandfather drove cattle to Langdon for the Powder River Cattle Company. Tom’s family immigrated from Ukraine, while Carol’s family settled east of Didsbury in 1911."
In 1974, Tom's parents purchased land in Didsbury, and after completing his education, Tom joined them to incorporate Westway Farms in 1983, explained MVC.
"Today, under Tom and Carol’s leadership, the operation spans 10,000 acres and includes over 2,400 head of cattle, with their children also playing active roles."
Westway Farms became certified in 1989 after transforming from a mixed farm to a farm producing pedigreed seeds. The Hadways emphasized environmentally friendly methods and took part in several environmental protection campaigns.
"Beyond their farming efforts, Tom and Carol are dedicated to community service, with their children actively involved in local agricultural organizations."
MVC wants to congratulate the Hadway family on their contributions to agriculture and commitment to their community.
RVC states that Larry and Kortney, fifth-generation grain and hay farmers, along with their kids, Paige and Trace, are the owners and operators of Willows Farms Ltd.
The family received a complimentary ticket to the Ag Tour, a plaque for their home and a gate sign.
