Erwin Henry Meyer
June 14, 1935 – October 9, 2024
Erwin was born June 14, 1935, to Paul and Elizabeth (née Hilbert) Meyer, on the Meyer homestead in the Annaheim District, Saskatchewan. Erwin lived his entire life in the Annaheim area except for a job he briefly had working in B.C. for a logging company. Erwin married Marilyn Vanderlinde on June 6, 1959. Together they had three children, Gary, Keith, and Donna. Erwin was a hard worker and worked 17 years for the RM of Annaheim and still would talk about how he enjoyed this work. He went on to be a reputable drywall installer in Humboldt and large surrounding area. During his job as a drywaller he unfortunately had a severe accident that would eventually take his right leg. He so enjoyed joking about his prosthesis and seeing the look on people’s faces as they were surprised by the site of a titanium leg. In 1980 Erwin and Marilyn with partners started a new venture, where they built the Post Hotel in Annaheim. They ran the business, with help from their children and local help, until retiring in 1996. Erwin and Marilyn especially enjoyed hosting the hunters from south of the border at the hotel, and they continued to come back year after year. They continued making their home in Annaheim; a community which they loved. Although family always came first to Erwin and Marilyn, they also had many activities they enjoyed with friends and family. Erwin’s family was particularly proud of his many accomplishments as Mayor of Annaheim in which he took the job very seriously for several terms. He would also take great pride in helping his family with combining in the falls. Erwin was an avid hockey player in which he won a championship with the Semans Hockey Team. In his younger years he spent many years playing baseball as a catcher and traveled all over Saskatchewan taking part in weekend sports days. Erwin and Marilyn spent many times together at their camping spot at Barrier Lake. Friends gathered at this spot for a visit that would go on for hours. Having the kids and grandchildren for a meal or an entire weekend along with some fishing and sitting by the fire was truly a highlight that the family will reminisce about for many years. Erwin will be sadly missed by: his children and their families: Gary (Sharreen) Meyer, their family: Merit (Jodi), their children Theo and Kai; Dylan (Brittiny), their daughter Dahlia, and Kaylee; and Donna (Randy) Crone, her family: Kyle (Ashley) Klashinsky, their children Gabrielle and Cameron; Jenna (Dustin) Huebner, their children Teagen and Gage; and Brandon (Miranda) Crone; his brothers Orval and Ray; and his sister Evelyn Sarauer.
