It was a night of firsts for the Oilers as they dowsed the Prince George Spruce Kings 6-3 in their first-ever meeting in the BCHL.
The Green Army was treated to a win and bore witness to four members of the Green and Gold earning their first goals of the season.
Olivier Ciarlo made the start in net for the Green and Gold with some new gear and backstopped the Oilers to a win while making 22 saves in the contest.
The Spruce Kings opened the scoring in the game with a goal from Ethan Montroy just over four minutes into the game.
Logan Broten collected his first on the season for the Oilers just under a minute and a half later. Ryder de Nys picked up the assist on Broten's goal.
Not only was it Broten's first goal, but he scored it in his first game with Okotoks to tie it up at 1-1.
Otto Hanson put the Green and Gold ahead with his first goal of the season after getting in the slot and ripping it home. Michael Kowalski and Cyle Clayton got the helpers on the goal. Kowalski picked up his first assist on the season.
The Oilers would hold the one-goal lead until Prince George found the back of the net 6:53 into the second frame. Veteran defenceman de Nys would pick up his first goal of the season 13:44 into the second after getting in alone on the Spruce Kings netminder and finding the twine. de Nys' goal was unassisted.
Joey Meredith was next to pop in his first goal of the season and give the Oilers their first two-goal lead of the game.
Kade Duell and Casey Black got the helpers for both of their first assists on the season. Less than two minutes left in the second period Hanson would pop in his second of the night and second of the season to give the Oilers a 5-2 lead. Black got his second assist on the night and 16-year-old Ryan Boyce added his first assist on the season on the Hanson goal.
Prince George wouldn't roll over as they got a goal from Cooper Williams in the third, but it wasn't enough as Jackson Rowland picked up his fourth goal on the season with an empty net. Hunter Sawka would get credit for the assist on the goal.
The Oilers will now travel to Abbotsford for the BCHL Showcase held by the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday (Oct. 15) when they face the Penticton Vees. The puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
