The second time could be the charm.
Courtney Stewart is taking another run at Swift Current City Council.
"I think we live in a great city and I'm interested in helping lead and shape where we are going," Stewart said. "I want this to be a place where people love living and raising their families. A place that creates opportunities. I'm very enthusiastic about a new facility and I want to be part of the council who makes a plan to build it.
"As a young woman, mother of young children, active community member and a person who just likes getting stuff done; I think I offer a fresh perspective that would add value to City Council."
Stewart knows there are some worries about adding debt when potentially building a new aquatic centre.
"I know there's a lot of concern about our debt as well as building the new facility," she noted. "But I think there is a way to plan to make that happen. I think the new facility would draw more people to Swift Current and to keep the people who live here, here for the weekends and for the duration of their lives. I'm excited to be part of that."
Stewart also ran for council in 2020.
"I think definitely thicken up your skin," she said. "But honestly, I think maybe a lot of people just didn't know who I was. So I do a lot in the community and I think I'm getting to know a lot more people and I hope to be a little more successful."
The Swift Current native volunteers for a number of local organizations.
"I like being a part of things and I like building," Stewart said. "I volunteer with the Kiwanis Club of Swift Current and the ACT club. They're both service clubs so we fundraise and give money to different community organizations. I find that really valuable to be a part of. I also help organize the Swift Current repair cafe, where we take household items and repair them for free. So I think that's an awesome environmental initiative and adds a lot of value."
Stewart is is one of ten people running for six spots on council. There are four incumbents running to stay on council, while two sitting councillors have decided to retire.
Election day is November 13th.
