The 5th Weyburn Scouts Group is organizing a bottle drive on Saturday, October 19th, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This event, supporting Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and Venturers aged five and up, will help the youth earn funds for camps, camping supplies, and other activities.

"We started our program this September and have already had a camp," said Scout Lise, a 5th Weyburn Scouting Group representative.

The Scouts will go door-to-door across Weyburn to collect bottles, though Lise mentioned that they can only cover some areas. However, to ensure donations reach the Scouts, Lise encourages residents to contact her via Facebook or text at 306-613-467

Additionally, Integrity Oilfield Services is offering the use of their building for residents to drop off donations on the day of the drive.

Beyond fundraising, the drive offers a chance for the Scouts to engage with the community.

"Our youth are supposed to represent themselves according to what Scouts Canada would want," Lise said. "It's really nice for them to get their faces out there." She continues, "It's a great meet and greet on top of a way for them to earn money."

The funds raised will be distributed based on the hours worked by each youth. "We break it down into hours worked," Lise explained. "The kids get to see that if you put in more effort, then you have more money. It's been working really well, and it's funded many camps for kids over the years."

For more information or to arrange a bottle pickup, Weyburn residents can reach out via Facebook or texting Scout Lise directly.
