A second-time candidate announced late last week that he will be running for Swift Current City Council and campaigning on several main topics.
Ken Linsley brings a humble outlook and is keen to maintain a safe and growing community with opportunities, advancements, and manageable taxes.
Originally from Moose Jaw, Linsley moved to Gull Lake in 2004 before spending the past 13 years in Swift Current alongside his wife and two sons.
The 51-year-old has extensive experience as a board member on an array of different boards and previously ran for council back in 2020.
"Most recently, I was the chairman and a board member of the Swift Current District Chamber of Commerce, the chairman of the Development Appeals Board, the chairman of the Board of Revision for the City of Swift Current, and currently sitting on the Parks and Recreation board," he shared "I also did two terms as a counsellor when I lived in Gull Lake, there I also sat on the Lyceum Theatre Board and the Fire Board."
Linsley's main focuses include developing a structured plan of moderate yearly tax increases to keep up with rising costs, acquiring government funding or a grant for the new sports facility, incentives for healthcare workers in order to work towards a new clinic, and taking proactive steps to ensure community safety.
"I'm not a person that's in favour of vanity projects, I'm not looking to go put up big, shiny new things," he said. "I think we have to be smart about what we need, and that's just being responsible with taxpayer dollars."
He highlighted that during his free time, he enjoys outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing with his sons, heading to the family cabin in the summer, and travelling to the Caribbean during the winter.
"I come with a lot of experience, both on a professional side and a personal side," Linsley added. "I think I would be a great fit for this current council."
Linsley notes that community members can feel free to approach him while he's out in the community, at the candidates forum on October 30, visit his Facebook page, or give him a call at (306) 741 - 3703.
