The High River Flyers split their weekend games and in doing so picked up their first win of the 2024-2025 HJHL season on Sunday (Oct. 13).

Both games that were played on Friday and Sunday were 6-1 scores, with the Flyers coming out with the win against the third-place Southern Division Coaldale Copperheads on Sunday's tilt.

On Friday it was the Cannex Cochrane Generals who currently sit in fourth spot in the division coming out with a 6-1 win over the Flyers. Declan Kinch opened the scoring for the Generals in the first period with Caden Stephenson adding the second goal of the game in the same period. Cochrane picked up another two goals in the second, thanks to Nathan Sherriffs and Brendan Thubron, before Cody Steinert answered for the Flyers late in the second period. Rodie John Pickens and Jonah Thomas got the helpers on Steinert's goal.

The Generals didn't stop there as they got two more goals from Diago Coelho and Evan Judge to finish the game 6-1.

On Sunday the Flyers took full control as they picked up their first win in a convincing 6-1 win over the Coaldale Copperheads. Ethan Cox picked up the first goal for the Flyers in the first frame with Thomas adding the assist. In the second period, Ryder Terpstra and Carson Grimeau scored goals for the Flyers to go up 3-0 on the Copperheads. Ethan Miller, Owen Campigotto, and Rhys Morris got points with assists.

Caden Heins broke the scoreless drought in the game for the Copperheads but, Terpstra, Aiden Schopf, and Steinert answered with three goals for the Flyers to put the game out of reach. Schopf and Grady Vandenhoek picked up an assist on the goals while Campigotto picked up two assists on the Terpstra and Schopf goals.

The Flyers will only play one game with weekend when they visit the top-seeded Cubs of the Southern Division in Medicine Hat on Friday (Oct. 18) with a 7:30 p.m. start time.
