A large number of Airdronians showed their support for the Kajdy family by donating bottles on Monday.
According to Chelsea Broadbridge, a family friend and organizer of "Bottles for Brooke" a total of $1743.20 was donated.
Brooke Kajdy and her husband Gabriel put out the call for help and have started a GoFundMe to help Brooke pay for a trip to the United States of America in the hopes of taking part in a potentially life-saving drug trial.
In June of last year, Kajdy was diagnosed with stage 4 B-cell lymphoma while pregnant with their son (second child). Since the call for help, over $79,000 has been fundraised.
The mothers of where Kajdy's daughter goes to daycare came together to host the bottle drive.
"All of us moms stuck to the areas where we had delivered flyers, and we had probably delivered around 400 flyers all over the city of area in our respective communities. We did post the flyer on Airdrie's Facebook community pages and we were lucky enough that we drove around pretty much a ton of different areas all over the city, and lots of people left out bottles with their tags, with their flyers on there. So even in the areas that we couldn't get flyers to, there was still tons of support."
Seeing so many people wanting to help the young family made Broadbridge proud to live in Airdrie.
"There were so many families who had four or five large bags available to us, and we had lots of people messaging on Facebook to see how they could help. Every time that we visited the trailer throughout the day, there were usually different people dropping off bottles."
By the end of Monday, the trailer that was being used to collect bottles at Living Springs Church was almost full.
"I would encourage anybody who has the means to support and to develop a fundraiser or to donate funds in any way that they can to keep this family in mind; they have been fortunate enough to raise a great sum of money in a short amount of time. However, it's still only about 16 per cent of their goal."
Broadbridge hopes the young family can get the medical support that is needed and also generate the funds needed.
"She's 23 years old with these young children; she deserves every single opportunity to live the rest of her life with her kids as anyone else does."
