Rocky View County Council kicked off its annual organizational meeting with a decisive step toward shaping local governance, reappointing Crystal Kissel as Reeve for her third consecutive term and Don Kochan as Deputy Reeve for his second."
Under Rocky View County’s system, the Reeve and Deputy Reeve are chosen by council members for one-year terms. The Reeve leads council meetings and serves as the head of the council.
In addition to these leadership roles, the council made several appointments to internal and external boards and committees. Some of these positions had been advertised earlier, and council members reviewed applications and resumes before making decisions.
Internal Board and Committee Appointments:
Agriculture Service Board / ALUS Partnership Advisory Committee: Two members at large from west of Highway 2 for a three-year term:
- Travis Eklund
- Trevor Birchall
Assessment Review Board: One member at large for a three-year term:
- Justin St. Louis
Family and Community Support Services Board: Three members at large for a three-year term:
- Beverly Copithorne
- Blaine Townsend
- Jung-Suk Ryu
Policy Review Advisory Committee: Created on October 8, 2024, this committee had its first appointments approved during the meeting. The term is one year:
- Reeve Crystal Kissel
- Deputy Reeve Don Kochan
- Councillor Samantha Wright
Subdivision & Development Appeal Board / Enforcement Appeal Committee: Three members at large for a three-year term:
- Beverly Copithorne
- Bob Doherty
- Moire Dunn
External Board and Committee Appointments:
Calgary Metropolitan Region Board:
- Reeve Crystal Kissel, with Deputy Reeve Don Kochan as the alternate.
South Central Rural Municipalities of Alberta (SCRMA) District 2 Board:
- Councillor Greg Boehlke, alternate Reeve Crystal Kissel
Marigold Library System Board: One member at large for a three-year term:
- Laura Chitwood
Public members appointed to these boards may include residents representing specific areas or community interests and partnering agencies. Additionally, the council approved the 2025 Council and Committee Meeting calendar during the session.
