Crystal Kissel was re-elected for a third term as reeve of Rocky View County (RVC) at the county council's annual organizational meeting on Oct. 15.
A secret ballot was required after Div. 1 councillor Kevin Hanson accepted a nomination for the position. Div. 5 councillor Greg Boehlke declined a nomination.
Division 2 Councillor Don Kochan, who previously served one year as reeve, was re-elected deputy reeve, a position for which Div. 4 councillor Samanntha Wright was also nominated.
Both Kissel and Kochan will serve in the positions until the inauguration of the next county council following the October 2025 election.
Besides the election of reeve and deputy reeve, councillors and county residents were also appointed to several boards and committees.
These appointments are from one to four years, and the list of appointees confirmed during the meeting include:
Agriculture Service Board / ALUS Partnership Advisory Committee: Travis Eklund and Trevor Birchall, members-at-large, three-year terms;
Assessment Review Board: Justin St. Louis, member-at-large, three-year term;
Family and Community Support Services Board: Beverly Copithorne, Blaine Townsend, and Jung-Suk Ryu, members-at-large, three-year terms;
Policy Review Advisory Committee: Reeve Crystal Kissel, Deputy Reeve Don Kochan, Councillor Samanntha Wright, one-year terms;
Subdivision & Development Appeal Board / Enforcement Appeal Committee: Beverly Copithorne, Bob Doherty, and Moire Dunn, members-at-large, three-year term;
Calgary Metropolitan Region Board: Reeve Crystal Kissel, alternate Deputy Reeve Don Kochan;
South Central Rural Municipalities of Alberta (SCRMA) District 2 Board: Councillor Greg Boehlke, alternate Reeve Crystal Kissel; and
Marigold Library System Board: Laura Chitwood, member-at-large, three-year term.
Regular RVC council meetings will continue to be held the second and fourth Tuesday of the month and the governance meeting will be on the third Tuesday, both with some exceptions.
