Some eligible parents in Airdrie will receive the Canada Child Benefit (CCB) by the end of this week. The CCB, administered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), offers tax-free monthly payments to help families with the costs of raising children.
Families' amount depends on their adjusted family net income (AFNI), the number of children in their care, and their ages.

For the payment period from July 2024 to June 2025, families can receive a maximum of $7,787 per year for each child under six and $6,570 per year for children aged six to 17. Payments decrease for families with an AFNI exceeding $36,502, and adjustments are made annually based on the income reported in the previous year’s tax return.
To qualify for the CCB, applicants must live with a child under 18 and be primarily responsible for their care. Additionally, the applicant, their spouse, or common-law partner must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person. Temporary residents who have lived in Canada for the last 18 months may also qualify. However, foster children are not eligible for the CCB during months when Children’s Special Allowances (CSA) are being paid.
Families with shared custody should note that each parent will receive 50 percent of the benefit they would have received if they had full custody, calculated based on their AFNI. Some provinces and territories also provide extra assistance, which may be added to the CCB payment or paid separately.
It's important to remember that the Alberta Child and Family Benefit (ACFB) is also administered by the CRA, which is related to the CCB on behalf of the Alberta provincial government. However, ACFB payments will be made next month.
Eligible families should allow five working days from the payment date to receive their CCB.
As we approach the holiday season, families should mark their calendars for the remaining CCB payments this year: November 20 and December 13.
Other benefit payments, such as the Canada Carbon Rebate (CCR) and the Goods and Services Tax/Harmonized Sales Tax (GST/HST) credit, were issued earlier this month, making this the last benefit payment date for 2024.
