The City of Airdrie is conducting a Consumer Retail Survey as a key component of a larger Retail Demand Study.

Sara Chamberlain, the Team Leader for the City of Airdrie Economic Development explained that the city is doing the survey.

"It is asking people questions about their shopping preferences and habits so that the City of Airdrie can better understand where Airdrie residents are spending their money, and, more importantly, where they would like to spend their money."

She explained they are also trying to find out if what is currently in the city is meeting the needs of the residents.

"If they're not, then what types of businesses should we be looking to attract to Airdrie? Or maybe, how can we support the existing businesses that we have in Airdrie to offer products and services that better meet our residents' needs?"

There are two different types of surveys residents can make, one being a consumer survey, and one being a business survey.

"The consumer survey is directed to our residents to help understand their shopping preferences and behaviours."

The business survey is for the city to try to understand the business-to-business relationships in the city.

"It will help us understand how businesses are collaborating and what businesses need in terms of support from the City of Airdrie.

"We want to understand the entire retail landscape in Airdrie, where we can attract more businesses and how we can support the existing businesses that are here."

Chamberlain finished off by saying the end goal is to have all Airdrie residents being able to live, work, shop and play in the city.

The surveys are open to the public until October 25, and they take about five to 10 minutes.
