On Thursday the Rocky View Schools Board of Trustees heard the official enrolment numbers for the school year breaking down each community.

As of September 30, RVS had a student enrolment of 29,243, which is an increase from the year before of 641 students, or 2.24 per cent.

In February 2024, RVS sent a projection of what they think their student enrolment would be at, they predicted 29,350.

Airdrie alone has a total of 13,262 students with Grade 10 being the largest contributor to that number with 1104. While some schools are higher or lower than others, the total utilization rate of all Airdrie schools is 97 per cent.

To see the exact breakdown of the schools, see the graph below.

Graph which was presented to council showcased the population of each Airdrie school.

Surrounding communities (near Airdrie), student populations like Crossfield, Beiseker and Kathyrn were also presented.

  • Crossfield - 725
  • Beiseker - 295
  • Kathyrn - 143

Also, on Thursday, the Board of Trustees voted to make some changes to ward boundaries.

The option the trustees went with was an eight-trustee option, adding a Trustee to Ward 6 (Cochrane would now have two Trustees) and combining Ward 2 (Langdon, Indus and Chestermere rural areas) and Ward 4 (Crossfield, Beiseker, Irricana, Kathyrn, and Airdrie rural areas).

Trustee Lang brought forward a substitute to the above motion that would direct the Board Chair to send a letter to the education minister asking for support to explore the feasibility of forming a separate Airdrie School Division. The majority of the trustees voted against the substituted motion.
