The Wild and Free Southern Saskatchewan Homeschool Group will hold a community favourite event at Knox Hall on October 23rd from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Wild & Free Handmade Market offers outside-the-box learning opportunities with lasting results for all (with, of course, the exception being cookies).
"The handmade market is about kids making and selling handmade stuff, toys, and woodworking, baking - there's lots of different things you can find at the handmade market," said Madisyn Schick, who is nine years old.
The event provides an opportunity for homeschoolers to learn about marketing products they created.
"We're learning about how to communicate with customers, making change pricing and packaging stuff," she shared.
Madisyn and her sister Emily, who is seven years old, are participating again this year under their business name, 'Small Town Sisters'. They'll be selling flower crowns, feather pens, and press books that can be used for crafts or pressing flowers.
"We made them last year. They were a big hit. We sold out of them. So that's why we decided we're going to make them again."
Admission to the event is free and will feature more than 30 vendors.
"There was lots of people who didn't get a chance to get a table because there's only a limited amount of tables, so there was lots of people on the waiting list," shared Madisyn.
She said when their table isn't busy, she and Emily peruse the other tables, all manned by homeschooling children of all ages.
"There's something I really like and that is trading. We had a trade last year. We traded a flower crown for a hair clip."
Madisyn said they enjoy seeing what other kids have created for the market.
"It is fun to see the same product but made by different families because they always turn out different."
The wide variety of products can satisfy a sweet tooth and even help shoppers check gifts off their Christmas shopping lists.
