Longtime Swift Current resident and former city employee Kurtis Kantrud is running for Swift Current City Council.
Kantrud has also been a business owner and works at Redhead Equipment.
"I grew up in Swift Current and I worked for the city for close to ten years," Kantrud said. "I know how the city worked back then. I know what could be improved and what was always needed in Swift Current."
He had a few reasons that inspired him to run.
"We do have a great city," Kantrud said. "I would like to see it continue to grow and remain safe. I know the cost of living is hard for a lot of families. I'd like to work on getting the cost down so families can actually afford to put their children in sports and activities."
Kantrud wants to be a voice for fellow residents at the council table.
"I think to be a good councillor you have to listen to what the people of Swift Current are saying and what they're asking for," he said. "And to provide them with answers in a timely manner. Either good news or bad news, the people of Swift Current need to be heard. I'm here to do that for them."
The biggest topic of conversation this election seems to be the push for a new recreational facility. That's top of mind for him as well.
"We need a facility for this area," Kantrud said. "We don't have anything from Moose Jaw to Medicine Hat to Saskatoon. Our aquatic centre now is in rough shape. I don't see how much longer that will last. By the time we get it built the costs could probably go up more and more. That's one thing I'd like to work on for sure."
Kantrud is married with four children and two grandchildren. He emphasized being a big supporter of local sports and billet for the Swift Current 57s.
