With winter quickly approaching, and for those who live in High River, it's time to find a new place to park the RV.
Seasonal parking restrictions for recreational vehicles (RVs) will be taking effect in High River at the end of the month.
As of October 30, the parking restrictions will be put in place, and High River residents will no longer be allowed to park their RVs on the frontage of their property.
High River's Land Use Bylaw describes a frontage as the space between a building's façade and the curb.
The parking restrictions will be in effect until April 1, 2025.
Under the Land Use Bylaw, RVs are not to be used for living, sleeping, or housekeeping purposes in town, unless in designated campgrounds.
RVs and trailers, under the bylaw, must always remain mobile, so they are ready to be moved, and RVs are not allowed to be connected to public utilities unless they are being serviced.
Throughout the year, RV's and Trailers can only be parked on the street in a residential area for a forty-eight-hour period, for the sole purpose of load and unloading, as long as the towable RV or trailer remains attached to the vehicle towing it.
RVs are not to block, obstruct, impede, or hinder traffic or become a safety hazard to the public, and they must be parked adjacent to the owner's property.
The RVs also can't have any projections, slides, or attachments that inhibit the removal of the RV, and that includes the use of hoses, hookups, and cords that aren't being used temporarily.
And no RV is allowed to be parked within 1.5 metres of a highway access.
When the parking restrictions aren't in effect from April 2 to October 29, the RV must be parked a minimum of 0.6 metres from the interior edge of municipal sidewalks or curb, and no portion of the RV is allowed to protrude onto the roadway.
Anyone who doesn't comply with the restrictions may receive enforcement action.
In the Town of Okotoks, RVs can only be parked on a front driveway for a maximum of 72 hours so they can either be loaded or unloaded.
The Town of High River has also announced that the RV Dump Site in George Lane Park is now closed for the season.
The water at the dump site has been turned off and a block will be installed over the dump site to prevent dumping during the winter.
The dump site will reopen May Long Weekend 2025, and to learn more, click here.
