A drop from Friday's rain hugs these two red berries on a tree in Altona Park

The latest round of Fall rainfall arrived Friday morning in portions of the region.

“Light showers began shortly after 5 a.m. along the international border west of the Red River to an area south of Morden,” explained CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner. “The precipitation came courtesy of a surface low pressure system crossing through North Dakota yesterday morning. The showers were coming off the cold front associated with that system, and pushed northeasterly from north-central North Dakota into the southern Pembina and Red River Valleys beginning around 5:30 a.m. Friday.”

After a seasonal Friday, the weather will again turn much warmer than average for the weekend. Daytime highs should be around 9 degrees for this point in October, and -1 overnight.

“Gusty southerly winds, along with the return of a generally west to east flow aloft and surface high pressure over the region will all add up to another warming trend beginning Saturday,” said Sumner. “Highs today will be in the 15 to 17 range, with even warmer conditions Sunday and Monday when highs push into the low to mid 20s, possibly 13 to 15 degrees above average for this time of year.”

Monday night a low pressure system moving through the province will mark the beginning of a return to more seasonal conditions for much of next week, and may also be the next rain maker for the area.

“In behind that low, a trough in the jet stream will develop, meaning it will sink south of us and a cooler, but closer to seasonal airmass will move into the region,” he added. “Right now, it’s looking like highs Tuesday and beyond will be in the 7 to 11 degree range.”
