According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, two to four centimetres of snow are expected today, with snow beginning near noon. Snow will continue to fall throughout the evening and stop near midnight, with another two to four centimetres expected. The gusting winds today may also make the commute slightly more difficult.

The area continues to be under a special weather statement issued over the weekend. Although Airdrie's forecast does not predict rain, Environment Canada warns that rain could complicate travel.

According to the statement, snow will start today, possibly beginning with a brief period of rain before switching to snow, which may cause slippery travel. A few centimetres could accumulate before tapering off Monday night, but the warm ground may cause some melting, leading to variable snowfall amounts.

Motorists should also be prepared for changing travel conditions. Despite this being the season's first snowfall, it appears the snow will be short-lived. Short-term forecasts do not foresee more snow this week, with daytime highs ranging from minus two today to 13 degrees come Saturday.

However, if residents are planning a trip to the mountains, they should be aware of other weather warnings, including a snowfall warning for Banff, which warns of anywhere from 10 to 15 centimetres of snow, with higher amounts of up to 25 centimetres possible in elevated areas.

The snow, which may be heavy at times, will begin this morning and taper off in the evening. Some melting may occur initially due to warm ground, leading to variable accumulations. Rapid snow buildup could cause difficult travel conditions and reduced visibility.
