The High River Flyers were in a good mood this weekend after discovering that the Bob Snodgrass Recreational Complex (BSRC) ice will be ready for their home opener on November 1.

The mood continued to shine as they came away with a point against the Medicine Hat Cubs who were at the top of the Southern Division in the HJHL. The Flyers pushed their only game of the weekend to overtime and fell just short in a 6-5 hockey game.

Kaiden Fulton made the start in net for High River, stopping 34 shots in the contest.

The Flyers opened the scoring just 24 seconds into the game with a goal from Cody Steinert who picked up his fifth goal of the season. Ethan Cox got the helper on the goal. The Cubs answered back with two goals in the first period and then another two goals in the second to take a 4-1 lead. Kyle Woolridge, Nolen Sutherland, Callen Prosofsky, and Jacob Hazzard scored for Medicine Hat.

High River made a game out of it by adding two unanswered goals of their own to finish the second period. Ethan Miller got the first of the two unanswered goals with Karson Caetano picking up the helper. Wout Rehorst made it a one-goal game with the second of back-to-back goals, Cox and Owen Campigotto got the assists.

Denyn Smith gave the Cubs their two-goal lead back in the third on a powerplay goal, but Miller and Aiden Schopf answered to send the game to overtime. Campigotto, Ryder Terpstra, and Miller picked up assists on the goals.

Caleb Garrecht won the game for the Cubs just 36 seconds into overtime.

The Flyers will be in Didsbury on Saturday for their final road game to start the season when they face the Mountainview Colts and then finally host their home opener on November 1 against the Rocky Rams at BSRC.
