This week's Airdrie Techmation Thunder Spotlight belongs to Lucas Veal.

The Thunder split their two most recent games, they lost Friday to the Sylvan Lake Wranglers 4-2 but beat the Ponoka Stampeders 4-0 on Saturday. Veal was in the net for both games.

He had a strong performance on Friday stopping 37 of the 40 shots he faced. He followed it up Saturday earning his team their first shutout of the season stopping all 20 shots.

Head Coach and General Manager Mark Kulynych explained why, Veal earned the spotlight.

"He played great in both of our games this weekend and stopped 57 out of 60 shots, including getting his first-ever HJHL (Heritage Junior Hockey League) shutout on Saturday. Vealer has settled into the year nicely. He’s a great kid and awesome teammate!"

In three games played so far this year, Veal has had two wins and one loss, with a 1.68 goals-against average and a .937 save percentage.

"It's an honour to be the spotlight of the week, I couldn't have done it without my team and the hard work they all put in and the support I get from them."

Talking about his performance over the weekend, he was proud of how he played.

"I think I was able to give my team confidence and the opportunity to win. Overall a pretty good weekend."

The the season still being young, Veal hopes his team will keep developing the family-type bond to make a push for the playoffs.

"Start of the season, some people didn't know a lot of the players. But we are all close friends now."

On the season the Thunder are 4-5. They look to add two more wins starting tomorrow when they face off against the Three Hills Thrashers, at 8 p.m. at the Ron Ebbesen Arena. Saturday they are on the road taking in the Rocky Rams.

Young Airdronians can dress up in their Halloween costumes for the Friday game to have a chance to receive some Halloween treats.
