I find myself falling into the trap at least once a day.
It happens at work and it happens at home when I check social media.
I click on the "Reels and Short Videos" section on Facebook. I watch one and then another and there's no telling how long I might spend in that trap.
The reels come with music and audio on Facebook and Instagram and algorithms come into play. Your reels will be recommended based on what may be relevant to you.
So, you watch one fishing video and suddenly a whole lot more pop up for your enjoyment.
One guy I like to watch is Dave Portnoy and his "One Bite Pizza Reviews". This guy's rich and famous now. He buys a pizza, usually takes it outside and then tries it out. Crowds gather and restaurant owners and staff follow him outdoors to see if he likes it.
He likes thin, crispy crust and just about always gets the pizza with sauce and cheese - not the loaded pies with pepperoni, ham and mushrooms and the rest of the toppings.
Then, when he goes in for the review, he says, "One bite - everybody knows the rules" and then he proceeds to take two, three and four bites before he rates the pizza on a zero to 10 scale.
He's what we call an influencer. In fact, the New York Times calls him "one of the most influential people in the world of food social media with the ability to "change the fate of a pizzeria with a single utterance".
And I wonder, how can I get a job like that?
