The Rocky View Schools (RVS) Board of Trustees has officially approved the 2025/26 academic year calendar, now available on the RVS website.
Board Chair Fiona Gilbert thanked the community for their input, stating, "This school calendar responds to what we heard from our families, students, and staff. It strikes a balance between what is best for students, what is desired by families and staff, and what is required by the Province."
She emphasized the importance of community feedback in planning the school year to benefit student learning. Key highlights of the approved calendar include:
- First day of classes for students: September 2, 2025 (following Labour Day)
- Spring break: April 3 – 13, 2026
- Last day of classes for students: June 26, 2026
- Total instructional days: 182
The calendar includes classroom days and opportunities for professional learning for RVS teachers and staff, which aims to enhance instructional practices and improve student learning outcomes.
The calendar’s design followed a comprehensive engagement process, during which approximately 2,900 parents, guardians, students, and staff contributed over 2,100 pages of feedback through an online survey.
According to RVS, the final calendar reflects a traditional format, aligning with families' preference for summer enjoyment before the school year begins.
Looking ahead, a revised draft of the 2026/27 school calendar will soon be presented to the Board for consideration.
