Man arrested in Crescentwood Monday morning after being spotted with gun in backpack

A 27-year-old man is in custody after being spotted with a gun in Crescentwood.

Winnipeg police responded to Maryland Street near Wellington Crescent at around 10:45 a.m. on Monday following reports of a man in the area carrying a backpack with what was believed to be a firearm sticking out of it.

Officers quickly located the suspect and searched his backpack, which led officers to find a 12-gauge sawed-off shotgun. A shotgun shell was also located.

The 27-year-old suspect faces a long list of weapons charges.

He remains in custody.
