Allan Joseph Schreiner
June 9, 1943 – October 19, 2024
It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Allan Joseph Schreiner, 81 years, of Humboldt, SK, on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Royal University Hospital with his family by his side.
Allan Joseph Schreiner was born in St. James, SK, on June 9, 1943, the fifth child of Frederick and Magdalene Schreiner. He grew up on the family farm and attended school at a one room schoolhouse, Norwegian Grove. He received a grade nine education, which he upgraded to a GED. Al began his employment as a pinsetter at a Saskatoon bowling alley. Following that, he worked for Bateman Jeweller’s, then began sewing furs for Yeager’s Furs in Saskatoon then in Prince Albert. It was around this time in 1962 when he met Barbara Anne Koski. They were both attending the wedding for Clifford and Edith Schreiner. The following year, Al and Barb married in St. Patrick’s Church on September 23, 1963. They welcome their daughter Tammy on October 15, 1964 and their son Todd on September 14, 1969, both in Prince Albert. Allan then began as a furrier for Cecil Corrigal’s Furs in Prince Albert until the family moved to Lanigan, SK in 1974. He began working as a miner at the potash mine, starting underground until an accident caused his interest in first aid and safety. He followed this career path and became a health and safety officer for the mining industry. His job took him to Elderado, Uranian City, Blind River, Saskatoon, then Cluff Lake, where he would fly in and out for work. He then followed his job to Iqaluit, taking Barb with him, and eventually to Yellowknife, where he retired and bought into a Sears franchise. In 2002, they decided to move to Humboldt, where they began Al’s Taxi. He drove his taxi until his health required him to rest in 2017. In April of 2024, he entered into long term care at Lanigan Parkland Lodge, then to St. Mary’s Villa, until his death.
Al was a kind man who would help anyone in need. He was gentle and loving. Because of this he made friends wherever he went. He was talented and could fix anything, and especially loved cars. He spent many hours helping his son and grandson locate and restore their favourite cars. He repaired his own cars many times. He also loved to fish and had many adventures on the Northern Lakes, as well as his favourite fishing holes like Lake Lenore and St. Brieux. He enjoyed his family and grandchildren and loved having visits. One treat he loved was a nice piece of pie!
Al was predeceased by his parents Fred and Lena Schreiner, eldest brother Frank (Anne) Schreiner, sister Nona (Walter) Zameruk, sister Ida (Howard) Sahli, parents-in-law Antony and Violette Koski, sisters-in-law Betty Schreiner and Marie Koski, and niece Gail Schreiner.
Al is survived by his wife of 61 years, BARBARA; son Todd (Valentine) Schreiner and their children Denisha (Jay Streisel) and Brianna (Michael Schwebius); and daughter Tammy (Monte) Cristo and the father of her children Daniel Mamer: Nathan Mamer and his children Kadience and Xander and their mother Carey Rueve, and Sarah Sliva (Matthew) and Ellia. He is also survived by his brother Eugene Schreiner and family, his brothers-in-law Bill Koski, Lawrence (Bernice) Koski, Dennis (Lois) Koski, Robert (Donna) Koski, as well as all their families; sister-in-law Cheryl Hamilton and family; and numerous nieces and nephews from the Schreiner and Koski families.
