Wilma Irene (nee Horvath) Hugie
May 20, 1934 – October 19, 2024
Wilma passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the age of 90 years. She contracted Covid and was isolated for 10 days; however, she didn’t have the strength or will to fully recover. Wilma was born on May 20, 1934, to Joe and Mary (nee Mihalicz) Horvath. She grew up on a farm south of Quinton, SK, and attended Mission Lake School. Wilma met the love of her life, Art Hugie, at a dance in 1952, and they were married on October 15, 1953. Wilma and Art were blessed with two sons, Ernie in 1954 and Don in 1961. Wilma enjoyed curling, dancing, sewing, playing cards, baking and cooking. She loved her large gardens and flowers. Wilma helped Art with the farm, milking cows, driving the grain truck, and cooking for the harvest crew. Nothing was ever small with Wilma; she’d have 100 chickens butchered before lunch and oh, her noodle making – enough for the whole town. She was employed with the Strasbourg Nursing Home for 15 years. After retirement in 1994, Wilma and Art left the farm in the Serath area and built their new home in Humboldt, where they resided until Art’s passing. Wilma lived a short time at Caleb Village in Humboldt before becoming a resident of Golden Acres in Wynyard. Wilma will be lovingly remembered by her two sons: Ernie (Carol) and Don (Darcy); two grandsons: Corey (Vanessa), and Ryan; four great-granddaughters: Rori and Paige, Calista and Electra; as well as one sister, Marge Fischer (Ivan). She was predeceased by her husband Art Hugie (2018); sister Mary Benko; and by four brothers: Frank, Joe, Jim, and John. “Mom was a tiny little thing, but she was feisty right to the very end. Wilma passed on her own terms, with dignity. Rest in peace Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, and Sister. You are loved and will be missed.” The Funeral Service was held at Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Bev Trach. The eulogy was delivered by Marge Fischer, and the urnbearer was Ryan Hugie. “We, the family of Wilma Hugie, would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Golden Acres.”
