Next weekend, Weyburn’s Troy Kramm will see hundreds of hours of work culminate in a first in the world of professional wrestling – a show staged in Mexico, organized by a Canadian promotion.
“Our card is fully stacked,” Kramm told Discover Weyburn. “We have everybody. We have a little bit of everything for everyone I think.”
The seven-match card will have Mexican wrestling legend Hechicero in the main event. The card includes a trios match, an intergender match, and a 5-way dance for the Souris Valley Championship.
For Kramm, the event, which is officially called the Les and Muriel Kramm Memorial Event in honour of his parents, will also help a dream come true, as he started to love the Lucha libre style of pro wrestling, known for its high-flying wrestlers known as luchadors, as a kid.
“I kind of grew up watching the lucha wrestling on WCW,” Kramm recalled. “That’s where my first kind of exposure to it was, and then just getting more and more entrenched in it with wrestlers that have come up here in the past, and I’ve become friends with.”
The show in Mexico is possible thanks to connections Kramm has made in the industry in Mexico, particularly through the promotion Lucha Memes, as well as CMLL, one of the biggest wrestling promotions in that country. The dividends of the work have paid off with the show set for November 3rd, but there could be more on the horizon.
“We are already in talks to run a potentially huge show with one of their stadiums there – Arena Puebla,” Kramm explained. “So, we might get another Mexico show done before we end up running a show back here in Weyburn or Saskatchewan.”
For those who will be wanting to watch the show, aside from travelling to Mexico you will have to wait a short bit, Kramm noted, as it won’t be streamed. However, it will be available as a video-on-demand through the service Independent Wrestling Television.
“It will be edited with English commentary, so you’re going to be able to see all that action there,” he said, adding that the production will be high-quality thanks to the partnerships he has developed in Mexico.
