The Weyburn Public Library is making it easy for families to take part in the annual tradition of pumpkin-carving this Thursday, October 24th, with two time slots and plenty of room for all of the gutting and cutting involved in making jack-o-lanterns just in time for Halloween.
The best part - the mess doesn't have to be made on your kitchen table.
"Anytime we can have the opportunity to have people come to the library and think of us in a totally different light, we encourage that hugely. It's very important that people feel that this is their space and what better way to do it than coming and doing a craft where it's positively, absolutely, gorgeously mucky," shared Branch Manager Dawn Silver.
While pre-registration is needed for those hoping to have the pumpkins supplied at the 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. events, Silver encourages people to bring their own as well.
"You are free to bring your own pumpkins because we've got one per family, and multiples are welcome if you bring your own," she invited. "There's a good number of pumpkins out there. I bought a great, ginormous one for the library at the last Market on the Farm."
She said there is plenty of space within the Allie Griffin Auditorium, as well as the kitchen program room, and volunteers will be on hand for cleanup following the event.
"It's so great having this amount of programming space right here," Silver commented. "We really encourage everybody to show up, come with your family. This is a totally family-oriented event."
While everyone enjoys showing off their jack-o-lanterns at home, the library is also encouraging people to share theirs at Weyburn Tourism's annual Pumpkin Lane event this Sunday as well.

Silver added, "I love October programming because Halloween and October fall Thanksgiving. It's all just an incredibly program-rich environment. Our Teen Programmer did a huge number of programs. She's the lowest number of hours and she did like 37 programs in one month."
