Phyllis Moar
1935 - 2024

Peacefully on October 20, 2024, with family by her side, Phyllis Moar passed away at the Portage General Hospital in Portage la Prairie, MB at the age of 89 years.

Phyllis (nee Garrioch) was born on June 27, 1935 at Bluff Creek, MB where she grew up the second oldest in a family of 12 children. She married Donnie Moar in 1954 and they moved to Portage in 1955 where they made their home for all of their married lives, raising their family of 3 boys. She eventually welcomed 7 grandchildren into her life and was a devoted grandmother to them and the 14 great grandchildren who followed.

She worked in several jobs while also raising her family including the Sewing Factory, the Canteen in the old Centennial Arena, the Portage Mutual and for many years worked as a much-loved cook at Portage Daycare. Phyllis was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church and volunteered in the thrift store there. She also volunteered many hours at Southside Athletic Club and wherever her busy sports minded sons were involved. She enjoyed visiting with friends and family, playing Bingo, trips to the Casino, doing jigsaw puzzles and playing cards. A big part of her life was quilting with sister-in-laws Augusta and Myrt with many family members and friends enjoying the beautiful quilts they made.

Phyllis leaves behind her son Ray (Lynda); grandson Bryce (Pearl) with sons Gavin and Jace; grandson Daniel (Tawn) with sons Jett and Dax; her son Gil (Cindy), granddaughter Jennifer (Niall) Edwards with daughters Lauren & Ellie; grandson Steve (Erin) with son Maddox; grandson Mitch (Sarah-Jane) with son Lincoln & daughters Shiloh and Eden; and her son Bruce; granddaughter Melinda (Kris) Mouland with son Xander & daughter Hailey; grandson Derek (Marcie) with son Ryker & daughter Ryleigh.

Phyllis was predeceased by her parents Glen and Doris Garrioch, her husband Don, her daughter-in-law Shelly and her infant granddaughter Dana. She was also predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law Marion & Art Dueck, brother-in-law Phil Allard, brother & sister-in-law Archer & Betty Garrioch, sister and brother-in-law Glenice & Lorne Zayshley, sister and brother-in-law Clara & Ed Owen, baby brothers Alexander & Gilmour, brother & sister-in-law Doug & Lynn Garrioch. She was also predeceased by her parents-in-law Robert and Claudia Moar as well as brother-in-laws John, Angus & Gary Moar, Lloyd Calder, Art Dixon, Ron Mattus; sisters-in-law Augusta Calder, Tina Dixon & Bessie Pearson. Phyllis also leaves behind her sisters Nellie Allard, Rhoda Garrioch & Fern Read (Marcel) & her brother Stewart Garrioch (Carmen). She will also be missed by brother-in-laws Archie Moar & Don Pearson, sisters-in-law Myrtle Kenny, Diane & Fran Moar, Lorna (Don) Asham, Wilma Moar & Barb Hryciuk-Moar. Phyllis also has many, many nieces and nephews and Godchildren who all loved her very much. Also left to mourn her loss are her dear friends at the Windsor Estates who loved and cared for her so well into her later years.

The family would like to thank all of the many family and friends who visited Mom during her long term care journey. We also really appreciate the nurses and staff at Foyer Notre Dame and the Lions Prairie Manor for their excellent care and compassion.

Interment will take place on Saturday, November 9th, 2024 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Portage la Prairie, MB at 1:00 P.M. followed by a Come & Go Celebration of Life from 2:00 - 4:00 P.M. at Stride Place Multi Purpose Room on Island Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Phyllis’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
