The Didsbury Fire Department has opened up applications as they are looking to add to their number of firefighters.
Kyle Leeson, Deputy Fire Chief for the Didsbury Fire Department, talked about opening up the recruitment process.
"We are looking for dedicated members of the community, you must live within five miles of the fire station so you are able to respond to a call quickly. We also provide all the necessary training for them to become a volunteer firefighter."
The Didsbury Fire Department is all volunteer firefighters, which means you go to the fire station when you get a call, not spend shifts at the fire station.
"We have 30 members right now, we don't have a maximum of what we are looking for, we are just trying to find some new members that are willing to join our team."
The fire department trains every Friday night from 7 - 9:30 p.m. where they practice everything they might encounter when attending a call.
"We hope they have a strong work ethic and like to be a part of a team cause that's what it is all about when serving your community."
You must also be 18 years old and while you don't have to have your CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) right away it is required and you will have to get it down the line.
last weekend the Didsbury Fire Department held a fire prevention open house seeing plenty of residents visit the fire hall and learn more about what they do and how they do it.
"It's such a great thing that the community can come out, ask questions, and we could tell a little more what we do. It was a great turnout for a great event."
