The City of Airdrie has provided an update on "Inspire", the new multi-use facility and library.
While the goal was for the building to be fully enclosed before the first snowfall, workers are still working on reaching that goal.
Clay Aragon, the manager for culture, heritage and events at the City of Airdrie, explained the main focus for the contractor is getting the building weather-tight to begin interior finishing before the snow is here to stay.
"The roof is mostly complete with just a few things left, same with exterior framing and boarding."
He said as of right now the vapour barrier insulation is being set in place which should be completed around November 1.
"Curtain wall framing is also being done while they have been working on interior framing, which I think is going to be completed here fairly soon."
As windows arrive, they will be set in place as well, explained Aragon. He went on to talk about the lane closure that Airdronians experience when driving by the building.
"That's because they're working on the bus lane for the building. They are trying to get all that done as well, so it is ready to go for all the landscaping in the future."
Once the building is fully enclosed, the mechanical and electrical pieces are next on the to-do list on the inside.
"I think those are going to be the big parts, which will followed by all of the carpentry work that needs to be done."
As the project inches toward completion, the last part will be adding all the furniture for the building. With the underground parkade also complete, installation of the elevator will be happening once it has been delivered.
Aragon finished off by saying the project is still on schedule and on budget.
The name for the building was selected back in early July at a council meeting. At the meeting, three names were presented to the council for them to consider, "Discovery Place", "Discovery Centre" and "GLOW" (growth, learning, opportunity, wonder). But after much discussion council voted on "Inspire" which was also a top choice.
The building is located on Main Street across from London Drugs.
