The Alberta Pound and Rescue Centre (APARC) Airdrie chapter still has three of the five puppies up for adoption that were found abandoned in a dumpster within the city.

Both Gretel and Aladdin have been adopted, leaving Olaf, Hansel and Gaston to remain looking for their forever home.

Tara Wingenbach, the animal service coordinator with APARC talked about how the three remaining puppies have grown over their time with them.

"The biggest thing that we've noticed is the weight that they put on. They were skinny before. They're just still puppies, learning to be puppies."

She explained that they have been working on house training and leash manners.

"They just need to get out of the shelter and get into a home. The longer they stay here, they're missing the crucial socialization period that all puppies need."

APARC has also provided DiscoverAirdrie with a biography of the dogs.

Photo of Hansel.

Heyo!! My name is Hansel! I am a young pup who enjoys attention, food, cuddles and playing! I love to run around and play with my toys, especially squeaky toys!  I am waiting for my forever home, ready to bring happiness, fun and endless joy into your life! I am looking for a patient forever family that understands my crazy puppy antics, and I promise I will be your best friend! I am still very young, and I am adjusting to this new world. I will need a lot of patience and training, but with time, I think I can get the hang of it (especially if you have some tasty treats or food for me!). Don't be shy! Call the shelter and book an appointment to come and meet me; you won't regret it!

Photo of Olaf.

Hey there! My name is Olaf! Just like my namesake, I am a goofy, happy boy who loves to play and is super outgoing. I am looking for a family who will take me on lots of walks and show me how things work. I am full of energy, and I need a lot of exercise and play to keep me happy. I love all of the new people that I meet, especially if they give me food or treats, I love food. I am still a young puppy so I do still have lots of learning to do but I am a quick learner.

Photo of Gaston

Greetings! I am Gaston! I am a pup who is very full of energy and am always ready for an adventure (and more food!). I think I am the best puppy around! No one can talk, eat or run like Gaston! For there's no one like Gaston! I am very food motivated so that will help in my training. However, I am still a very young puppy and I still have lots of learning to do. I am looking for the right family who will help guide me to be the best dog and friend I can be! If you think that family is you, please call the shelter to come and meet me, I'd love to see you!

Either two or all of the puppies will be at Pet Valu Airdrie (on Main Street) on Saturday from 12 - 3 p.m. with the hopes of being adopted.

"If anyone wants to come there and look at them, please do! Or come to the shelter to see them as well, I'm surprised that they have not been adopted yet. They are the sweetest things ever."

When asked about what kind of breed they are, Wingenbach explained the best they can do is guess, but believe they might be a lab, shepherd mix of a mix.
