The Weyburn Public Library is hosting a Repair Cafe tomorrow in partnership with the Sask Waste Reduction Council (SWRC). It is a free event where members of the community can get a variety of items repaired by local volunteers. The SWRC Administrative Coordinator, Bobbie Duns, says this is one of many Repair Cafe events they’ve put on since 2019, and each is unique.
“The repair stations that we offer are completely based on what volunteers offer to work on. It really can vary from event to event. For the Weyburn Repair Cafe coming up, we have stations for mending clothing and textiles, repairing small appliances, repairing and cleaning computers, bike repair, and then wheelchair cleaning.”
Duns says her experience has shown it’s best to host these kinds of events often.
“The more often that we put them on, they get bigger and better. Putting them on regularly does make them better and connecting with people who want to help in the future is also great.”
She also describes the event as a way to connect with the community.
“One of the neat things about repair cafes is that they are put on by people in your community for people in your community. it is a great way to connect to people in your local area who care about waste reduction and repair just like you do.”
Walk-ins are welcome on the day of the event, but appointments are prioritized. It runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and services are completely free. Find more information and where to book on the SWRC website.
