The Piikani Nation RCMP recently charged two people with drug and weapons offences.
On Tuesday, October 22, Piikani Security alerted Piikani Nation RCMP of a vehicle that lost one of its wheels and drove into a ditch near Brocket on Highway 3.
Once the RCMP arrived, they found that both of the people in the vehicle had outstanding warrants and were placed under arrest for those warrants.
The vehicle contained drug paraphernalia that was in plain sight, which caused the vehicle to be searched incidental to arrest.
As a result of the search, police found:
- 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine
- 6.5 grams of suspected fentanyl
- 6 tablets of oxycodone
- $2740 CAD
- Drug packaging, a firearm, and suspected stolen property
The firearm in the vehicle was a loaded 30-06 pump-action rifle and had been modified with a pistol grip and shortened barrel.
22-year-old Asia Wilson and 34-year-old John Garszczal, both with no fixed address, where charged with:
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (x3)
- Possession of Items used in the Trafficking of a Controlled Substance
- Possession of Proceeds of Crime
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Careless Use of a Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited Firearm
Garszczal also was charged with Failing to Comply with an Undertaking and Possession of a Firearm while Prohibited.
Both were remanded into custody for court on October 24, 2024.
Due to this court date, this matter has been put off until October 29, with both remaining in custody.
